Physical Education and Sport

Physical Education

Physical Education at St Gabriel’s is an essential part of our curriculum.

We foster in the belief that a healthy body contributes to having a healthy mind. Our sports program focuses on participation, friendship, and active involvement. It allows our students to develop valuable skills, help to strengthen bodies, achieve individual goals, and cultivate a spirit of teamwork and healthy competition.

From Reception to Year 6, the students enjoy a series of sports clinics with expertise coaches, exposing them to new skills and sporting experiences.

From Year 3 to Year 6 students can partake in Interschool Carnivals, Cricket, Netball, Touch Football, AFL, Cross Country, and Athletics competition. It is an opportunity where they can build and practise techniques, build friendships on the sporting field and experience both the joy of victory and the graciousness of defeat.

In September each year our showcase Community Event is the St Gabriel’s Sports Day. Our Sports Day brings together the students learning in the Physical Education curriculum and Sport program. The program involves maximum participation with a team focus on House and School Spirit. Students represent their house:  Mackillop (Green), Hartzer (Red), Chevalier(Blue) and Xavier(Gold).  Our senior students play a major role in the preparation of sports day. They not only act as team captains but help prepare team chants, assist the younger students in the practice of events and add a special and unique theme each year. It is a wonderful and fun day for our community to come together.
